She advised me to go onto different courses for the relevent work I'm interested in. She reassured me that within voluntary work, other doors can be opened, especially for future employment.

Winnie Kalifa - Adviser to the Board of Trustees

Hi, my name is Winfred Kalifa and I have been a volunteer at the centre in the Finance Department since 2004. It was difficult for me to get a role as a volunteer in private organisations in the city even though I am a qualified accountant. I then decided to venture into the charitable sector and the experience has given me a lot of opportunities and built my previously low confidence levels to an all time high.

I have met lots of lovely people, including staff at the centre and other volunteers. The best thing about volunteering is the fact that I am doing what I like under no pressure and the level of appreciation just blows me away.

I am now also Financial advisor to the board of trustees of the centre. I am riding really high just from volunteering.
