Current Opportunities

Spitalfields City Farm           

•    Admin & Research Volunteer – Filing, answering phone. Office management, project development – researching planning projects and fundraising.
•    Farm Volunteer – Working with the animals and working on horticultural projects.

Age Concern

•    Befriender for elderly – visiting an elderly person for 1 hour per week, talking and listening and encouraging activities, go to shops or for a walk.

Barnardo’s Retail Shop 
 
     Retail Assistant - Sorting and pricing clothes and goods, working on the till, steaming clothes, tidying etc.

Brooks Farm
                   
     Horticultural Volunteer -  Helping with the allotments in a nature garden, digging, planting and weeding.
•    Animal Welfare Volunteer -  Feeding, grooming and looking after animals


Crest

     Charity Shop Helper -  Sorting, pressing clothes, serving customers and using the till.   
     Befriender -  Main aim is to provide a listening ear and company on a regular basis activities might include swimming, shopping or just a chat.
     Social Discussion Group Volunteers - Escorts, People to be collected to and from their homes and brought to the venue assisting with wheelchairs.
     Volunteer Helper -  socialising and befriending with members. .


Welcome Centre 

     Befriender - Chat and interact with clients
     Kitchen Assistants – Help prepare and devise menus for lunchtime meals..
     General Assistant - Cutting grass, cleaning grounds of rubbish, collecting donations, preparing dining room and many more duties.   
     Laundry Assistant - Set washing going in the machines, hang washing on the washing line or in tumbledryer and pack away in client’s bags.
     Kitchen Cleaner - Cleaning crockery and using the dishwasher, tidy away clean cutlery making sure the kitchen is clean.
     Serving Hostess - Serving meals to clients, clearing away the food.
 
•    Receptionist – signing people in.

Waltham Forest Council

     Befriender -   To befriend the service users and take part in activities at a residential care home
     Advocate  -  Working at one of the Council’s respite centres. To be an advocate for service users for their meetings & reviews when a family member does not represent them.     
     Gardener -  To attend to the garden and pond at a Council’s residential care home       

Shop Mobility

     VehicleBooker -  Assist elderly/disabled adults, keep wheelchairs & scooters clean & in good order.
     Shopping helper/escort - Assisting elderly and disabled shoppers in Walthamstow, help carry bags and using a wheelchair..           


Forest Farm Peace Garden

     Gardener -  To develop & maintain a community  garden, planting  & harvesting fruits and vegetables.    Arts, crafts & design Working on mosaics, decorating, sculpture, publication materials.

Quaker Social Action Homestore

•    Furniture Repairer – Repairing and transforming furniture.
•    Office Assistant – Reception and clerical tasks, taking down details of furniture, completing information on databases and dealing with the public.
•    Painter – Painting walls & floors.


Forest Recycling

     Computer Recycling - Do you know about computers? Are you able to help restore computers so that they can be recycled to charities? You must have knowledge of computers & printers.
     Electrical Tester-  To test/repair a wide range of domestic  electrical items. Qualifications in electrical engineering or with sound knowledge required, a practical test is given at Interview.
     Driver’s Mate -  To assist the collection driver on the route through East & North London, collection of  bundled paper, toner cartridges and other office furniture for recycling.        
     Office/Warehouse Assistant -  Helping to sort & store stock collected, some basic computer work.   
     Paint Sorter - Helping the recycling project to sort, log and   catalogue paint donated
     Recycling Collection Helpers - The role would include helping with monitoring and clearing of some of the mini-recycling centres in the borough.   
     General Helper at furniture Exchange Event  - 10am-4pm every other Saturday, at various locations in Waltham Forest, helping set up and attending to stalls.


Islington Music Forum    
                   
     Offering a range of theatre arts volunteer opportunities. If you enjoy drama, music, dance and theatre production then we can put you in touch with the Islington Music Forum volunteer co-ordinator to discuss their current projects.               
                               
                                       

Careline

Telephone Counsellor – Training provided to become a crisis telephone volunteer.   


Coping Through Football

•    Footballers – training leading to joining a football club, coaching and refereeing qualifications.



Kenneth More Theatre

•    Wardrobe Assistant – Making Costumes, repairing costumes, hiring costumes to the public, general wardrobe assistance.
•    Bar Staff – Selling and serving drinks, operating till, clearing the glass washing machine, collecting glasses and bottles.
•    Front of House Staff – Selling programmes, coffees and ice-creams etc., manning doors, ushering,


Metropolitan Police Volunteers
Opportunities are working on the front desk in Police Stations.

•    Case Worker – helping people to complete forms for benefits.
•    Admin Volunteer – filing, answering the phone, telephone work.
